A BIT ABOUT THIS COFFEE

This is one of several smaller lots of coffee from Myanmar we’ve imported in 2021 with the purpose of showcasing the countries potential to produce exceptional coffee. This is a washed example of a Kenyan variety often known for its complex acidity carried by a quality sweetness. Grown and produced by Mr U Sai Wan, a Q-grader and innovator of specialty coffee production in Myanmar.

WHY YOU WILL LOVE THIS COFFEE

This one is for black coffee drinkers. This filter roast coffee delivers complex fruit sugar sweetness and a juicy acidity. Slightly tropical with pineapple, apple, and some caramel and tea notes. One Brew is not enough!

THE STORY

When you see U in the name of a man from Myanmar it means Uncle and is an affectionate term for a male older than you. Among the team we call this coffee Uncle Sai’s but formally you’ll see it as U Sai Wan!

Mr Sai Wan Miang is a pioneer of specialty coffee production in Myanmar and a key driver in the creation of the country's coffee institutions. He acquired his land in 1998 and now has over 400 acres of a highly sophisticated, well managed coffee farm. Macadamia and Silver Oak trees provide full shade for his coffee plants.

Uncle Sai produces natural, honey and washed processed coffees and grows several different varieties, this one being a Kenyan variety. He is an innovator in the Myanmar coffee industry and has received multiple awards for his quality coffee. And we can see why. Sai Wan is also one of a handful of Q graders in Myanmar. He follows strict quality protocols from seedling right through to the cupping bowl.

With Myanmar being one of the least represented origins in the Australian coffee industry, we’re stoked to represent this country with coffee that just tastes so good.

This is our 4th year of buying Uncle Sai’s coffee and we can’t wait to see what the future brings.
