A BIT ABOUT THIS COFFEE
In the peaceful village of Phudam Khuan on the Bolaven Plateau, Bou Pha cultivates some of our favourite microlots from Laos.
Committed to organic principles under a dense forest canopy, she grows Typica—a rare, high-quality heirloom introduced to Laos a century ago.
Working closely with Bou Pha each year allows us to share exceptional microlots like this honey-processed favourite, an absolute standout from our latest harvest.

THE STORY
Tucked into the southern reaches of Laos’ Bolaven Plateau, Phudam Khuan is a small village defined as much by its people as by its landscape. Here, coffee is grown in modest volumes across a handful of households, each contributing its own careful work to a shared outcome. It’s a place we’ve returned to year after year—not just for the quality of the coffee, but for the relationships that continue to shape it.
This lot was produced by Mrs Bou Pha, a farmer whose coffees we’ve come to know well over time. While much of our previous work in Phudam Khuan has focused on washed coffees, this release reflects an ongoing collaboration with Bou Pha to explore how different processing methods shape her harvest. Keeping the focus on fundamental, immaculate execution, this lot was carefully picked and pulped, leaving a medium amount of mucilage on the parchment before being dried super precisely. Technically, this method aligns beautifully with a yellow honey process.
Bou Pha brings a depth of experience to her farming, balancing traditional methods under a natural shade canopy with a continuous willingness to learn. Over the past few years, we have built a shared commitment to quality and experimentation, working together to trial washed, honey, and natural processing. Each step has been about understanding how best to express the delicate character of her heirloom Typica in this specific environment.
Our model in Laos has always been built on transparency and long-term partnership. We work closely with each farmer throughout the harvest, agreeing on volumes and pricing in advance, and ultimately purchasing everything they produce at a price they set themselves. By handling the dry milling and exporting directly, we aim to remove as much logistical burden as possible—allowing farmers like Bou Pha to focus on what they do best.
This coffee is a true reflection of that ongoing collaboration: a small, thoughtfully produced lot that captures both the distinct character of Phudam Khuan and the direction we’re exploring together.
