The reality in 2026

The numbers don't lie.

Hospitality is the highest-risk sector in Australia right now. Here's what's actually driving it.

10.6%

of cafes, restaurants, and takeaway businesses closed in the 12 months to early 2026.

CreditorWatch, 2026. Hospitality is the highest-risk sector in the dataset.

86–93%

of turnover is absorbed by expenses in high-revenue coffee shops — before volatility or owner wages are counted.

ATO Small Business Benchmarks, 2023-24. Net margins are thin by design.

$6.60

is the average maximum Australians say they'll pay for a coffee in 2026. Ingredient and wage costs keep rising. The ceiling doesn't.

Tyro Eat Pay Love Hospitality Report, 2026.

1 Jul

Payday Super kicks in. Super contributions must reach employee funds within 7 business days of each payday — not quarterly. Cashflow pressure increases again.

Fair Work Ombudsman, effective 1 July 2026.

Most cafes losing money aren't badly run. They're running on systems and supplier relationships that were set up years ago and never revisited. A good coffee supplier should be helping you find that money. Most don't.

Who this is for

We're selective about who we partner with.

The OQ Partner Program works best for operators who match this profile. We'll tell you plainly if it's not the right fit — we'd rather be honest than sign an account we can't serve properly.

Revenue
$40K+ monthly revenue

The savings we identify are material at this volume. Below it, the numbers don't justify the engagement on either side.

Trading history
At least 12 months in business

You need baseline data to compare against. A cafe in its first year is still working out what normal looks like.

Volume
Minimum 20kg per week

This is the threshold at which our partnership model, including the guarantee, is sustainable for both of us.

Time
2 hours per month from the owner

The Personalised Profit Plan only works if the owner is in the room. It's not much time, but it matters.

Financials
A bookkeeper or accounting software

We're reading what's already there, not building from scratch. Basic financial visibility is essential.

Standard
Quality-focused operation

You care about what you're serving. The coffee and the story behind it matters to your brand, not just the price per kilo.

What you get

The Partner Stack.

This is what being an OQ partner actually looks like. Not a brochure version. Every inclusion has a job to do in your business.

01
The foundation
Specialty coffee, sourced direct from farm

Farm-level relationships across Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, India, Sumatra, and Yunnan. Named origins, named producers, roasted to order for your specific setup. We are one of the only specialty coffee companies in Australia operating at this level. You know exactly what you're serving. So do we.

The Personalised Profit Plan

This is the heart of the partnership. Working with Amelia — co-founder and CEO — we go through your business using a structured diagnostic. COGS, labour, occupancy, waste, supplier terms, pricing. From there we build your Personalised Profit Plan: the specific savings and efficiency opportunities in your business, ranked by impact and ease of implementation.

Then we work through them with you. Roster changes, pricing adjustments, supplier negotiations, waste systems — one at a time, in order of highest return. You're not handed a document and left to it. We stay involved until the changes are in and working. This is where the $6,000 comes from.

Marketing
The OQ Marketing Playbooks and a live session with our Head of Marketing

Old Quarter has grown from one cafe to four. The marketing strategies behind that growth are repeatable, low-budget, and built for operators who don't have a marketing team or a large spend to work with.

As an OQ partner, you get access to those strategies directly. And a live session with our Head of Marketing to help you apply them to your specific cafe, your location, and your customer base. Not generic content — the real playbook, built for and with you.

The guarantee

We put $6,000 on the line, every time.

Most suppliers talk about support. We're willing to make it a guarantee because we've done this enough times to know what we can find in a well-run cafe.

The $6,000 figure comes from real moves: a cup price adjustment across 1,350 cups a week. A roster tightened by 10 minutes per shift across multiple staff. An EFTPOS fee negotiated. A wastage system that actually gets used. Each one modest. Together, across a year, they compound to more than $6,000 in almost every cafe doing $40K+ revenue. That's not an estimate. It's a pattern.

$6,000 in savings or $6,000 in free coffee.

Within 90 days of becoming an OQ partner, we will identify $6,000 or more in annualised savings across your business. If we can't find it, your next full month of coffee supply is on us. No conditions, no awkward conversations.

The coffee itself

We know the people who grew it.

Old Quarter is one of the only specialty coffee companies in Australia operating at farm level across underrepresented Asian origins. We don't buy from importers. We have direct relationships with the producers behind every origin we source.

That matters for quality — because we know exactly how a crop was processed and what it needs to express well. And it matters for your business — because the story behind what you're serving is real, traceable, and genuinely different from the origins your competitors are pouring.

Our Fair Value Exchange buying code means the producers we work with are paid at a level that reflects the quality they produce, not the lowest the market will tolerate.

Common questions

The questions we actually get asked.

I'm already locked in with a supplier. Is switching worth the disruption?
Switching is genuinely disruptive — retraining staff, recalibrating grinders, ending a business relationship. We don't minimise that. What we'd say is: if your current supplier has found you $6,000 in savings this year, or is actively working on your numbers alongside the coffee, the disruption probably isn't worth it. If they haven't, that's a real and ongoing cost. Apply, come in for a tasting, and see what the Personalised Profit Plan turns up before you commit to anything.
My coffee is fine. My customers are happy. Why change?
Completely fair. "Fine" with happy customers isn't a problem we need to fix. The reason most partners join isn't the coffee alone — it's the Personalised Profit Plan and the guarantee. If your numbers are already where you want them, you probably don't need us. If there's money leaking somewhere, and there almost always is, the conversation is worth having.
The guarantee — what if you identify savings I already knew about?
If you already knew about them, we confirm them quickly and move straight to implementation — which is where most of the value sits anyway. Knowing a roster change would save you money is different from having it running properly and consistently. We stay with you through the implementation, not just the identification. The guarantee covers both.
I don't have much time for ongoing sessions.
The time ask is around two hours in your first month, then lighter touchpoints as we work through the plan. A structured pre-session questionnaire means Amelia arrives with your numbers already read — the time you spend is on decisions, not paperwork. We work around you, not the other way around.
What's the price per kilo?
Pricing is discussed once we understand your volume, setup, and blend requirements. What we'd say upfront: our per-kilo price reflects specialty coffee roasted to order, direct-source provenance, and the full Partner Program included. We're competitive with other specialty roasters in the market. And the $6,000 guarantee means the total value of the partnership typically exceeds any price difference many times over.
Ready to apply?

Let's find your $6,000.

The application takes about five minutes. We'll review it and come back to you within two business days. If you look like a good fit, the next step is a tasting — not a sales call. You try the coffee, we get to know your operation, and we go from there.
